Batman: Arkham Knight – 10 Things You Need to Know

Batman: Arkham Knight Logo for new PS4 and Xbox One game

It’s been widely understood for ages that Rocksteady have been secretly working away on a next-gen Batman game for a while now, but that doesn’t mean that yesterday’s announcement hasn’t got us wildly excited for the Dark Knight’s debut on the PS4 and Xbox One with Batman: Arkham Knight. So let’s dive into what we’ve been able to find out about the game since its reveal.

Play Alien: Isolation at Rezzed Expo in Birmingham

Most media outlets haven’t even been given a chance to try Alien: Isolation yet, but Sega are giving YOU the chance to play the game at the EGX Rezzed event at Birmingham NEC on the 28th-30th March.

Sega seem keen to show gamers the game first-hand with no smoke and mirrors after the utter farce that was the finished product of Aliens: Colonial Marines. So why not head on down? Tickets are available at the event’s site here from as little as £9. The game will be playable on PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms. Creative Assembly’s survival horror approach certainly has us interested, but we’re cautious as to whether they can maintain it throughout a whole game against just one alien. That said, we’ve been hearing rumours of androids being used as gun-fodder in-between all the hiding in cupboards. Continue reading Play Alien: Isolation at Rezzed Expo in Birmingham

Play Infamous: Second Son Early at Game Store Lock-Ins

Still on the fence about putting a pre-order down for Infamous: Second Son on your PS4? Well, you need to do two things. One: Check out Matt’s recent hands-on preview. Two: Head down to one of  the participating Game stores and play the game for yourself ahead of the game’s release on March 21st.

Dates and venues are included below. To sign up, you’ll need to visit the store in advance and ask for a free ticket. Note: you’ll need to be 16+ and a Game card owner. If your local store isn’t on the list, but you’re planning on travelling a few extra miles to the nearest venue, you could always try contacting the store’s Twitter account to see if they’ll hold a ticket for you so you don’t have to travel twice. That’s my plan anyways.

It’s also worth noting that attendees will be given some free food and refreshments while you wait. Better yet, place a pre-order for the game and you’ll get an exclusive Infamous poster and a Destiny summer beta key.

PS4 Update 1.61 Set to Fix CE-34878-0 Crashes?

Earlier this week we saw the latest PS4 firmware update pop up when we turned on our PS4s. Keen to see what new feature we were getting, we had a look what was included with the new 1.61 update. With the previous update mainly focusing on adding official headset support, we were hoping for something directly targeting the dreaded CE-34878-0 error message which appears on a regular basis for many gamers, either causing corrupted save files or even crashes when browsing their capture collections. New Thief Trailer Emphasises Open Approach

Still on the fence about the upcoming Thief game? Then check out this extensive gameplay trailer which does a great job of showing how you’ll be able to play the game in any style you want. Play as a ghost and remain undetected throughout your mission, try to play the game without killing a single person (betting there’s a Trophy for that) or just swagger around firing lethal arrows and stabbing people in the neck -probably making life quite difficult for yourself in the process.

Coming from the team behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution, we’d expect open approaches to missions to make up a large part of the game’s DNA and are enormously relieved to finally see some solid evidence of this. The footage brings to mind a hybrid of Deus Ex, Far Cry 3 and Dishonored, which might just the best thing to happen to stealth gaming since Hideo Kojima looked at a PS1.

Enjoy the trailer below and keep an eye on Dealspwn.com for the cheapest pre-order deals around the net.

PS4’s CE-34878-0 Error Code Spreads to Share Captures

Reports have been floating around the net for a few weeks now that numerous PS4 users have seen the CE-34878-0 error code appear and corrupt their save files beyond repair, often wasting up to 40 hours of work for the likes of Assassin’s Creed IV.

However, new evidence suggests the system error isn’t just focussed on our game save files and is spreading throughout the PS4’s other features. Continue reading PS4’s CE-34878-0 Error Code Spreads to Share Captures

The Lego Movie Videogame Trailer

While going to the cinema to see the movie will raise some eyebrows unless you have children, buying this is fine. Rock you inner man-child’s world by picking up the latest Lego game in February. The game ties in with the odd looking film which seems to be some sort of crime caper with new characters, but with the likes of Batman and other DC-types popping in to help out every now and then.

To be honest, we’ve no idea what’s going on in this latest trailer, but as Lego City Undercover showed, Traveller’s Tales don’t need to rely on a classic film/comic license to bring us a quality adventure. They know damn well by now we just want to collect shiny things. Speaking of shiny things, why not pick up the PS4/Xbone version of Lego Marvel Super Heroes for £29.99 with our deal. Enjoy the Lego Movie Videogame trailer after the break. Continue reading The Lego Movie Videogame Trailer

Are Next-Gen Re-Releases Like Tomb Raider A Bad Idea?

Last week at the VGX Awards, Square Enix finally admitted they would be re-releasing Tomb Raider on the PS4 and Xbox One. This ‘Definitive Edition’ comes with a handful of visual upgrades including TressFX technology for Lara’s hair (like the original PC version), a remodelling for Lara’s face and better leaves and branches on the trees. And presumably better explosions, because that’s the next-gen dream right?

It will also include the previous pre-order incentive Tomb of the Lost Adventurer and there will be some unique touches that are only possible on next-gen machines. The Xbone version will include Kinect voice controls for weapon selection and the PS4’s DualShock light will light up when Lara’s lights a touch.

There’s even more packed in though! Like the extra skins, weapons and eight DLC maps for the multiplayer that everyone plays so much! Making of documentaries that you’d otherwise have to look for on YouTube! That really shitty digital prologue comic! And there’s an extra artbook in the Special Edition of the Definitive Edition for those of you wanting more than the Standard Edition of the Definitive Edition! What!

[UPDATE] Sony Suspends Voucher Redemption to Ease PS4 Server Strain

Bought a PS4 yesterday? Have a little trouble signing into PSN? Us too dear readers. As we expected, the servers strained and buckled under pressure as European gamers tried to sign into PSN on their new PS4’s to download demos, get their free PS Plus games, play online or redeem vouchers. At least the day one firmware patch was available to download without being signed into PSN.

Sony took their time yesterday, but finally acknowledged via Twitter and their Blog that there was an issue, which was something of a relief that it wasn’t something on our end to be honest. Continue reading [UPDATE] Sony Suspends Voucher Redemption to Ease PS4 Server Strain

Job Listing Suggests Co-op for Uncharted 4

Uncharted has always seemed like a great game to include some campaign co-op gameplay and it could well be on the cards for Uncharted 4 if a recent job listing post on Naughty Dog’s website is anything to go by.

The developer of the Uncharted series and The Last of Us is currently on the lookout for someone to fill the position of, “Game Designer (Co-op).”

Elements mentioned in the listing included: Continue reading Job Listing Suggests Co-op for Uncharted 4

No Football Manager for Next-Gen Consoles

Sports Interactive studio boss Miles Jacobson, has dashed hopes of console gamers playing Football Manager anytime soon, telling MCV [print edition], “We have no plans for next-gen at all.”

So, despite the architecture of the new machines resembling PCs more than ever, it would seem Sega and SI are yet to be convinced. Past form seems to be a key issue as Jacobson went on to say, “We didn’t have a lot of success on the 360. We did on the first version on Xbox, and we usually see ourselves going up year-on-year not falling.”

Call of Duty: Ghosts Free Fall Map is a GAME Exclusive

“Look, We’re Knocking Down Skyscrapers Too!”

That’s what this trailer for the Free Fall pre-order DLC incentive seems to be shouting, as Activision try to muscle in on Battlefield 4’s key multiplayer feature, massively changing environments in multiplayer maps. To be fair, Call of Duty: Ghosts’ new map looks like a hell of a lot of fun too.

Infinity Ward’s Mark Rubin, is pretty excited about the new map: “It [the new map] introduces our new mechanic, dynamic maps – this idea of bringing that sort of cinematic single player experience to multiplayer. You’re playing in a building that is falling over and is wedged between two other buildings. The floor you’re on is actually the glass windows from the side of the building so you see this world in a very topsy-turvy sense as it’s plummeting down to the streets below.”

The pre-order map will be available from multiple outlets in the US. European console gamers face a one-store exclusive policy in each territory though, with Game being the only option for UK gamers. Tease yourself with a trailer after the break and decide if you want to put your money with the big purple one. Continue reading Call of Duty: Ghosts Free Fall Map is a GAME Exclusive

Contrast Gameplay Trailer Moves in the Shadows

This is our first proper look at some gameplay for the upcoming platformer from Compulsion Games, Contrast. Set in 1920s Paris, with a burlesque-noir carnival style, your journey will follow the story of the little girl Didi and her imaginary acrobatic friend, Dawn.

In an interesting twist, you will be able to jump into the shadows, turning parts of the game into a 2D platformer. It looks like you will use both dimensions to solve puzzles and move around the game world. We’re getting a similar vibe to dimension-shifting games like Super Paper Mario, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams or the upcoming Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. This is a good thing.

PS4 gamers with a PS+ subscription will get the game for free at launch. Elsewhere it will be released on Xbox 360 and PC on November 15th and PS3 on November 20th. Continue reading Contrast Gameplay Trailer Moves in the Shadows

Killzone: Shadow Fall Story Trailer

Killzone: Shadow Fall is looking like the must-have PS4 exclusive on launch day. This new trailer gives us more details on the plot than any of the past videos and it’s shaping up to be very interesting indeed. Series fans will notice a reference to Visari and we’re presuming it’s his daughter who is now leading the Helghast. The game is set 30 years after the original trilogy and finds both sides fighting over the same planet since the destruction of Helghan.

Killzone has never been shy of putting a large emphasis on the story and it feels like Guerrilla Games are gearing up for something epic this time. Fingers crossed Rico won’t be making a cameo though. Don’t forget to check out our multiplayer hands-on report too. Continue reading Killzone: Shadow Fall Story Trailer

Killzone: Shadow Fall Multiplayer Hands-On Preview | Fast-Tracking to the Big Guns

Fast-Tracking to the Big Guns

Guerrilla Games know they’re up against it when competing for our time in the busy arena of FPS multiplayer games. How do you encourage gamers to give you a fair shot when Call of Duty and Battlefield are so dominant? How about unlocking all the core features from the start?

All weapons and class abilities will be available without the usual grinding; enabling you to try everything and discover what combination works best for you. This is a great idea and allows for a more even playing field for newcomers against players that have been living in the servers since launch day.

NBA 2K14 Next Gen Trailer Drops Jaws

Fancy taking a peak at a graphical benchmark for next-gen sports games? Of course you do, so here’s some footage of swaggering NBA basketballers in 2K’s upcoming next-gen version of NBA 2K14. The video shows some jaw-dropping in-game graphics, with an epic Mr-T beard on the Houston Rockets’ Harden being the obvious highlight.

If genre-leading visuals are your thing, it may well be worth hanging on for the next-gen versions of the game that launch on the same days as the PS4 and Xbone. Matt reviewed the 360 version recently and gave it an 8/10, so expect big things. Continue reading NBA 2K14 Next Gen Trailer Drops Jaws

Test Driving the Racers of the Future

There are a lot of racing games on their way, perhaps too many for those of us planning to splash out on a next-gen console soon. So which of them are shaping up to be worthy of your attention? I endured the queues and hardware crashes of the Eurogamer Expo to tear around various racetracks to bring you my impressions of five of the most anticipated racers of the future on both existing and next generation platforms.
