The PS4 has been doing pretty good for exclusives so far, but this is the one many of the Sony faithful have been waiting for. Naughty Dog has said this could be Nate’s final adventure, so there’s a lot to live up to, to make sure he goes out on top.
We pick things up a few years after the last game and find Drake working an honest living in salvage. He’s settled down with Elena and is playing it straight. There’s clearly still an interest in exploring lost lands in the hope of finding an epic haul of treasure and the introduction of his thought-to-be-dead older brother is the perfect spark to rekindle his passion for adventure. The departure of Amy Hennig from Naughty Dog in early 2014 was one of the saddest surprises in Uncharted 4’s development history. Hennig had been creative director at the company and had written and directed large parts of the trilogy. Essentially, without Hennig, the world of Nate, Drake and Sully would be very different indeed.
Naturally, concerns for the health of Uncharted 4 arose when Hennigs’ departure was announced and we’ve just heard via Nathan Drake’s voice actor, Nolan North, speaking at
Metrocon [thanks
Gearnuke] that eight months of story scenes they’d shot we’re thrown out. But does that mean that Uncharted 4 could be a very different game with someone else writing the story and directing the actors? It could, as the new leads will want to leave their mark, but on the other hand, it might not be the huge shift in tone that we initially feared.
So, Uncharted 4 has been pushed back to Spring 2016. As news goes for PS4 gamers, it’s pretty damn heartbreaking. But delays aren’t always a bad thing for a game. We’ve had enough of unfinished releases like AC: Unity and DriveClub, and are trying to be as patient as possible for the likes of Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher III, both of which have needed more time before the developers have been ready to unleash them. And major kudos to them for that and as much as it pains me to say it, Kudos to Naughty Dog too.

Uncharted has always seemed like a great game to include some campaign co-op gameplay and it could well be on the cards for Uncharted 4 if a recent job listing post on Naughty Dog’s website is anything to go by.
The developer of the Uncharted series and The Last of Us is currently on the lookout for someone to fill the position of, “Game Designer (Co-op).”
