The Last of Us Demo Available Now – If You Own God of War: Ascension

Months after God of War: Ascension released, the promised demo for The Last of Us ‘included’ with the game is finally available for download.

Simply load up Ascension (then wait for wait for over 600MB of updates if you’ve not played it for a while) and choose the demo from the main menu. This takes you to the PSN store to download the 132MB demo. Quit out and select the demo from your XMB then roll your eyes and go and make a brew while the rest of the demo downloads its remaining 2GB. REPORT: Original Far Cry Coming to Consoles in HD

A HD re-release of the original Far Cry game has been spotted on the Brazilian Ratings Board. With the original 2004 release being a PC exclusive, this is good news for PS3 and 360 gamers.

The Crytek  developed shooter was set in tropical locations similar to the ones we loved in Far Cry 3 and is something console gamers would probably be keen to investigate. Ubisoft haven’t officially announced the HD makeover yet, but with Far Cry 3 shifting over six million units and Blood Dragon proving to be a big hit, we think this is a no brainer. The Brazilian Ratings Board were also behind the early unveiling of Blood Dragon, so this is probably legit.

The Walking Dead: Retail Edition (Review)

After receiving widespread critical acclaim over the course of the first season of the episodic download game series, The Walking Dead has finally followed the tracks and shuffled its way to retail. Telltale have missed an opportunity though as this release features no extras, like making of videos, interviews and so on. Hell, if they’d chucked a poster in they could have called it the Collector’s Edition.

I’m making a fuss about this because as many of you will be aware you can download the series on PSN/XBLA for around £15 or even cheaper on PC or during a sale, but the RRP for this is £30. I love having physical copies of games, but you may want to buy this digitally or wait until this version drops in price, which it surely will. At least with this on the shelves it may stop people buying Activision’s awful -entirely unrelated- The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct by mistake.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct (Review)

I should begin this review with a public warning announcement. This Walking Dead game has nothing to do with the multiple award-winning downloadable series The Walking Dead by Telltale Games. Whereas that game was based on the comics, this is based on the AMC TV series and is a first-person action game.

Seeing as the critically acclaimed one that features multiple story choices and plays more likeHeavy Rain than Dead Island has just been released at retail too (review incoming), we wouldn’t want you to pick this one up by mistake.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Coming to PC and PS3 in Summer

The much-delayed Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn is set for a summer release according to the game’s Executive Producer, Naoki Yoshida, “The whole team has been working at full throttle to ensure the game will be ready for a summer release,” and “It won’t be long before you can mark your calenders and begin the final countdown.”

This summer release includes both the PC and the PS3 versions, which is surprising considering the original FFXIV (which crashed and burned horribly) never even made it to Sony’s console. In all honesty, I thought this new and improved version would skip the PS3 and head to the PS4. Continue reading Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Coming to PC and PS3 in Summer

The Walking Dead Episodes 1-5 Hits Retail Tomorrow

A disc version of Telltale Games’ multi-award winning The Walking Dead series is finally getting a physical release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC tomorrow. All five episodes will come packaged on the disc. This gives players who may be wary of handing over their credit card details online (not that Sony or Microsoft ever have any security breaches, ahem) a chance to play the zombie survival series that many publications awarded ‘Game of the Year’ last year, including us.

Details and trailer after the break.

Stealth Bastard Renamed for Vita/PS3 Release

Earlier this month we brought you the news that the critically acclaimed Stealth Bastard: Tactical Espionage Arsehole was coming to PS3 and PS Vita, although it would sadly be getting renamed. Curve Studios decided to let the fans rename the game, offering a free PS Vita to the winner.

Well, they had so many excellent suggestions that they ended up settling on two; Stealth Inc and A Clone in the Dark. So, ladies and gentleman, fans of bastard hard platformers with 80 stages of rage I present to you Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark. Frankly, I can’t believe they didn’t opt for ‘El Chappo Stealtho.’ Continue reading Stealth Bastard Renamed for Vita/PS3 Release

Beyond: Two Souls Tribeca Film Festival Trailer

Here’s the trailer that was debuted at last night’s Tribeca Film Festival. It focuses on the lead character Jodie Holmes, played by Ellen Page. We see scenes from various stages of the game including her as a child and an adult. Locations are varied too, one minute she’s living rough while possibly on the run and then she’s out in the desert riding a horse in a scene similar to one you may find in Red Dead Redemption.

Willem Dafoe can be heard in the trailer too, trying to convince Jodie to come back. We’re presuming she’s escaped the testing facility/hospital where they’ve been examining her psychic powers. Gameplay is a bit thin on the ground, as the trailer clearly plays to the film-fan crowd at the festival, but there’s no denying we can’t wait to see more. Enjoy the new trailer after the break. Why We Love… Single Player Games

Recent news has seen gamers lash out over the launch fiasco surrounding EA’s latest SimCity title. The game requires an always-on internet connection, which meant it broke as soon as it went live as thousands of enthusiastic gamers tried to play at once.

This happened days after Crytek CEO, Cervat Yerli, said, “I think the notion of a single-player experience has to go away.” Instead, he believes there should be more integration with the online world with “online single-player.” So, while keen to plug his upcoming online game, Warface, he’s stupidly kicked his other game –Crysis 3– in the stones. Guess we know why Crysis 2 and 3’s single-player modes can only muster a rental recommendation then.

Ridge Racer: Driftopia Announced as Free-To-Play Racer

Namco Bandai have surprised us this weekend with not only a new Ridge Racer game, but also with the news that it will be a free-to-play downloadable title on the PS3 and PC. Ridge Racer: Driftopia is coming later this year and looks similar to last year’s Ridge Racer: Unbounded, albeit with less building destruction. The tracks may well feature some of the same ones from that game as they look very similar in the trailer.

No other details have been released as of yet, but we’re sure microtransactions will be used to support the game. Fingers crossed the handling has been improved and is more in line with the older games as vehicles handled like buses in Unbounded. Vita fans may recall that the Ridge Racer title on the handheld was crippled by a lack of content as Namco thought it would be a good idea to make us pay for DLC that should have been included in the game. Hopefully they’ve learnt their lesson. But seeing as Driftopia will be ftp, you can be sure we’ll be giving it a fair shot. Check out the trailer after the break. Puppeteer Story Trailer Sets the Stage

Man, September is far away. Sony Japan’s upcoming theatrical platformer looks like nothing else on the horizon right now and here at Dealspwn we can’t wait. Visually it looks like a mashup of LittleBigPlanet and The Nightmare Before Christmas and the booming audio demands the game to be played through speakers to get that theatre-feel.

The latest trailer introduces the main character and the villain of the piece, with a few glimpses of the fearsome boss fights you’ll encounter. A US price-tag of $40 at the end of the trailer suggests a budget-priced retail game, which on these shores should be a very tempting £25. Check out the trailer after the jump, I’ve also popped the old reveal trailer in afterwards if you want to get up to speed and have a look at some gameplay too. Injustice: Gods Among Us Demo Incoming

Heads up fight fans, Warner Bros. Interactive have confirmed that Injustice: Gods Among Us is getting a PS3 and 360 demo next week. April 3rd is the date the demo will land on both platforms in EU territories, or a day earlier in the US.

The demo will allow you to try out Batman, Wonder Woman and Lex Luthor. They’re not the most energetic of scrappers from what we’ve seen in the gameplay bouts released so far. Superman and The Flash look much more appealing to be honest. Even so we can’t wait to try out the destructible interactive environments that look to give Injustice an edge over the competition. There are a few gameplay trailers after the break too including a new Green Arrow Vs Black Adam fight. Continue reading Injustice: Gods Among Us Demo Incoming

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time (Review)

Review note: This review mainly focuses on the Vita version of the game. A few days ago (after already finishing the game on the Vita), I was also sent the PS3 version, which allowed me to test the Augmented Reality and cross-save features too. All images are my own screen grabs from the Vita version of the game. If you buy the PS3 version, you will get a free digital copy of the Vita game too.

Aside from the excellent HD re-release a while back, we’ve not had a Sly Cooper game since 2005. This has left a gaping wound in the platforming genre that nobody has even attempted to heal. Sucker Punch have long since left to work on the InFamous games, leaving unknowns Sanzaru to take over full-time after successfully overseeing the aforementioned HD collection. While probably not under as much pressure as 343 Industries with Halo 4, there are parallels. Let’s see how they got on.

God of War: Ascension (Review)

gowFollowing up the cataclysmic events of God of War III must have been a terrifying ordeal for a studio to go through. However, when a series already has a prequel along with another game filling the gap between games one and two I struggled to see how Kratos’ adventures could do anything but go forwards.

In an old panel interview with the other four individual God of War director’s, David Jaffe (GOW1) said that he would have liked to see gods from around the world (think Norse and Chinese) move in on Olympus in a power vacuum caused by the death of the Zeus and his brethren. That would have been an unbelievably hot premise and the only true way to follow up Kratos’ gloriously enraged finale. It’s going to happen; it’s too good an idea to not. But sadly, I expect we’ll have to wait until PlayStation 4 as Sony are playing it safe with this prequel set before even the events of Chains of Olympus.

Final Tomb Raider Dev Diary Video

The long-awaited reboot of Tomb Raider is now merely days away and we can’t wait. Naturally, we’ll have a review for you very soon. Until then, why not check out the final dev diary for the game and witness the ever so slightly over-dramatic music and feeling they’ve tried to inject into the video. We’re also trying to ignore them saying they were still squeezing bugs out of the game just days before submitting the finished version. It’s going to be fine. Yes?

Killzone HD (Review)

There have been many HD re-releases over the last few years and it’s always a tough ask when the game was pushing the original hardware to the limit. Exactly how much more can we expect from a HD remaster? Rest assured though, Killzone HD looks, and more importantly, still plays exceptionally well today.

I was worried that having been such a fan of the original game, I may have been remembering the visuals with rose-tinted glasses and the HD reworking would shatter those memories. Thankfully, the game looks fantastic today and pulses with graphical finesse. It’s fortunate that the original game featured a texture-friendly grainy filter and a lot of mist, which transfers well today, giving the game a distinguished look.

Bungie Release Destiny Trailer

Well, Bungie have finally dropped some details about their upcoming game, Destiny. We can finally confirm that the game will be an FPS, but it will also be something of an MMO. This mini documentary shows a few barely animated illustrations before some tasty looking glimpses of the game in motion. That’s motion, not action mind. Also expect to see various Bungie members pat themselves on the back at every chance. Enjoy the video after the jump and let us know what you think.
