Watch Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference here

Getting up early tomorrow morning (September 15th)? Well, while you’re having breakfast, you should watch Sony’s press conference live from the Tokyo Game Show. We promise it’ll be better than breakfast TV. I mean, how could it not be?

The show starts at 8am and while we expect most of it to be in Japanese, this stream will be subtitled. We received an early rundown of the PS4 and PS Vita games that will be showcased at the expo earlier this month, so we expect some of them to take up some stage time. We’re hoping for a few surprise reveals and hopefully some more footage on The Last Guardian and Gravity Rush 2 too. Continue reading Watch Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference here

Hardware: Rivals makes PS4 comeback

Those of you that forked out for a network adapter for your original PS2 may well remember the online vehicular combat game, Hardware: Online Arena. Well, good news if you enjoyed it, as it’s getting a sequel on PS4. Step forward, Hardware: Rivals.

13 years is one hell of a wait for sequel, but at least there will be more than five people online at the same time to play it. The vehicular combat arena genre has all but disappeared of late, probably due to the last Twisted Metal game being utter balls. Hell, you can see that for yourself as the game is currently on the PlayStation + Instant Game Selection. One look at the trailer below tells us Hardware: Rivals could actually be a lot of fun though. Continue reading Hardware: Rivals makes PS4 comeback

Monsters await in new SOMA trailer

SOMA’s September 22nd release date is edging towards us on PS4 and PC. From the looks of this new trailer, there are plenty of nasty creatures in the shadows making their way through the shadows too.

Seeing as SOMA is coming from Frictional Games, the studio behind Amnesia, we’re expecting a thoroughly nerve-shredding experience. SOMA is set under the sea in an apparently abandoned facility. Is it abandoned, or did everyone just get eaten by the things stalking those dark corridors? We’re going for the latter. If you enjoyed the terrifying, defenceless gameplay of Alien: Isolation, you’ll certainly want to check this out. Continue reading Monsters await in new SOMA trailer

Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

Season Passes have become the scourge of games in recent years. We’re not opposed to additional content for games, far from it. But when the cost of a Season Pass matches that of a full game, our alarm bells start to ring. What’s worse, so many of these passes offer a paltry amount of content that simply doesn’t justify the price.

Consider that Season Passes often stick to their high price long after the main game can be bought for a fraction of the original cost a few months after release and the farce becomes even more laughable. Continue reading Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes?

Fallout 4 gets a new Strength infomercial

Those classic retro infomercials are back folks. This looks like one of the tutorial videos you’ll be seeing in Fallout 4 come November. In the game, you’ll be upgrading each of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats. S stands for strength and this handy video tells you why you’ll want to upgrade it if you’re going to survive in the wastelands.

Speaking of Fallout 4, be sure to check out today’s feature article: Are Fallout 4 and Witcher III a turning point for Season Passes? The new trailer can be found below. Continue reading Fallout 4 gets a new Strength infomercial

Until Dawn Review – A night to remember

Horror games aren’t usually meant to be ‘fun’ or known for being ‘a laugh’. Scrambling around in the shadows for ammo in The Evil Within, or managing a tiny inventory in Resident Evil can be harrowing and stressful experiences. And then there’s the nerve-shredding trauma of Bloodborne.

But what about horror movies? Beyond the blood and gore, we’re waiting for inevitable scare lurking around the corner to make us jump out of our skins and then laugh it off with friends. Until Dawn is the gaming equivalent of that horror movie experience and it’s been well worth the wait. Continue reading Until Dawn Review – A night to remember

Mad Max Review – Bleeding out on the blacktop

Mad Max Review - Bleeding out on the blacktop

Mad Max is a treasured movie series, and it was a great surprise to see the recent Mad Max: Fury Road reboot turn out to be pretty damn good. The pressure is certainly on for Avalanche Studios to deliver with their Mad Max game, which has been in the works since around 2008. So, it’s perhaps not unfair to have high expectations, especially when you consider the same studio is responsible for the ludicrously fun Just Cause series, with a third entry set to tear through stores later this year.

Just think about the comparison though. Just Cause games are set in a tropical paradise and give you tonnes of guns, skydiving, mid-air car surfing, anything-goes grappling hooks and the fun cranked up to 11 for the duration. Mad Max is set in a desert wasteland, car fuel must be scavenged and fought for, ammo for your rusty sawn-off is in dire supply and just staying alive is a constant challenge. Can you guess which game is more fun to play? Continue reading Mad Max Review – Bleeding out on the blacktop

BBC’s GTA drama starring Daniel Radcliffe dated and trailered

There’s not long to go now before the BBC’s The Gamechangers airs on BBC Two. The controversial documentary focuses on the development of the Grand Theft Auto series and the conflict between the company and outspoken US lawyer (now disbarred), Jack Thompson. Despite Grand Theft Auto developers, Rockstar, suing the BBC over the film, it would appear it’s going to air anyway.

Sam Houser, a Rockstar co-founder will be played by Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame), while Thompson will be played by Bill Paxton (Aliens, Apollo 13). Oddly, the BBC have not worked with Rockstar on the project, instead opting to base it on court documents and third party people who were apparently involved with events. Sony’s Tokyo Game Show 2015 lineup revealed

The Tokyo Game Show is a few short weeks away now and we’ve received word of the titles Sony will be showcasing at the Japanese expo during September 17th-20th. These are mainly Sony titles, but there are a few third-party appearances from the likes of Capcom , Konami, Square Enix, Bandai Namco and Atlus.

Expect a few surprises during the event too. We’re hoping Gravity Rush 2 shows some signs of life at least. The Vita lineup is predictably sparse at the moment and it’s more likely that game will make it to PS4 at this stage. Sony’s on-stage presentation will take place a few days earlier on the 15th and we’ll provide updates on the latest news from Tokyo. Continue reading Sony’s Tokyo Game Show 2015 lineup revealed

PS4 firmware update 3.0 has a much requested upgrade

PS4 firmware update 3.0 Kenshin

A few weeks ago we reported on a possible leak for the contents of the upcoming PS4 firmware and it looks like we were spot on with the list of new features coming to the console. But there’s a very important extra that’s been added to the list since, and for many gamers, it’ll be the most important one. Continue reading PS4 firmware update 3.0 has a much requested upgrade

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse Review

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse Review

It’s seriously bad luck to be near George Stobbart. Just as his first Broken Sword adventure began with a death in Paris, someone is shot within minutes of Broken Sword 5. And so begins another adventure to find the murderer. There’s more to it this time though as the shooter’s main aim was to steal a mysterious (and quite disturbing) old painting from a Parisian gallery.

If you’re new to the Broken Sword series, don’t be put off by that daunting number in the title. This adventure works as a standalone title and instead of relying on series knowledge, merely gives the odd nod to fans via cameo appearances, and of course, irritable goats. Cliff Bleszinski’s LawBreakers gameplay trailer has some moves

Until now, we’d only seen a few very pretty screenshots for Cliff ‘Gears of War’ Bleszinski’s new FPS, but now we have a name and more importantly, a gameplay trailer. And it’s looking pretty damn impressive.

LawBreakers will be a free-to-play title launching on PC, presumably in 2016. There’s no official word on a console release, but after watching this video, we’re sure PS4 and Xbox One owners wouldn’t mind a taste. The video shows off the different styles of characters and how the Earth’s shattered gravity atmosphere means everyone’s moon jumping around. Laser tethers also allow players to wall run around the outsides of buildings too. Continue reading Cliff Bleszinski’s LawBreakers gameplay trailer has some moves

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Review – Riot Control, Japan Style

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Review - Riot Control, Japan Style

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is all about smashing through big crowds. No matter which character you’re controlling, you’re essentially a god, eternally smashing through thousands of weakling enemies per stage with an extraordinary set of physical skills. It’s gaming in its purest form of empowerment. And it’s enormously fun.

There’s a problem though, and it’s one familiar to anyone that’s played a Dynasty Warriors game or one of the earlier One Piece titles – there’s really not much else to it. But in the right sized doses, this could find a place in your heart.
