Tales of Xillia (Review)

After waiting nearly two years more than our Japanese friends, we Western gamers have finally got our hands on one of the most eagerly awaited RPGs of recent memory. But was it worth the wait?

Tales of Xillia takes you on a journey with Milla Maxwell, a spirit deity in human form, and Jude Mathis, a young student, as they try to stop a corrupt king using a deadly weapon in a war he’s desperately trying to start.

Zatanna Added to Injustice Roster

NetherRealm have built up a strong roster of characters for Injustice: Gods Among Us since release, with regular DLC drops doing a great job of keeping the game locked into our consoles whenever we feel a bit fighty.

Zatanna the magician is the latest fighter and we have history and gamplay videos for you after the break.  She’s going to be a tough one in the hands on experts as she’s very fast. Cool teleport moves and excellent juggling skills are ready to make your life hell. Her magic skills mean Superman in particular is going to have a tough time with her, which should please Batman no end. Unless Zatanna mind-wipes him again. Still, we’d rather risk that than have to spend any time with the cast of Charmed or Hermione. Videos after the break a review link here. Continue reading Zatanna Added to Injustice Roster

12 Minutes of Dying Light Gameplay

We’ve been dying (sorry) to see Dying Light in action since its initial E3 reveal and Techland have finally unleashed some gameplay footage. This survival action game takes the Dead Island template and adds in some slick parkour moves to spice up the action.

It’s about time developers started to take some influence from the criminally under-appreciated Mirror’s Edge and we have our fingers crossed this will be more fun to play than Brink. Gameplay here looks to be very open, with tough choices needing to be made on the fly, as shown when discovering a lone survivor on the way to a supply drop.

You’ll also get a brief look at how much of a bad idea it is to be caught outside after dark in Dying Light. We’ll presume the almost instant transition to night-time was sped up a little for display purposes in this mission, but it would appear direct combat is a big no no at night. The zombies appear to go through some sort of transformation, becoming faster, stronger and more agile requiring intense sneaking around or terrifying sprints when discovered. Consider this one back on our radars. Enjoy the video after the break. Continue reading 12 Minutes of Dying Light Gameplay

Seven Things You Should Know About Disney Infinity

What is it?

In a similar way to Skylanders, you place plastic toys on a docking station plugged into your console and those toys will appear on-screen allowing the player to use them in-game in specific Playsets.

Characters are linked to Playsets, specific stages based around famous Disney films or locations. John Day told us more at a recent hands-on event:

In a given Playset you experience a single universe in a really immersive way. So when you play in Cars, you play as a Cars character you do things that makes sense to Cars like racing or building up the town of radiator springs. And if you play in the Pirates of the Caribbean Playset you get a very different experience, you play as a Pirate’s character, you get a pirate ship you sail the high seas, you fight the Kraken, the Kraken eats you, that’s what happens in Pirates. The two never really cross over, Jack sparrow will never go into the Cars Playset and McQueen will never go into the Pirates Playset.”

The Sunday Seven: Why You’ll Enjoy Saints Row IV More Than GTA V

We’ve been looking forwards to Saints Row IV ever since Deep Silver surprised us all with its announcement earlier this year. Yet much of its hard-earned limelight has been stolen by Rockstar’s upcoming GTA V. Rockstar release a few screenshots, one gameplay trailer and the world goes nuts, despite the press not even being allowed to touch it. Same old story, same old Rockstar.

Well, balls to them. Less than a month before GTA lands, one of the worst gaming droughts we’ve seen ends with numerous big hitters and none of them look half as entertaining as Saints Row IV. Here at Dealspwn we’ve had plenty of updates, trailers, interviews and hands-on sessions and it’s time to tell you why you’ll be having more fun with the dudes in purple.

Tearaway: Behind the Scenes Video

As trusting Vita owners, we’re really looking forward to Media Molecule’s Tearaway and it looks like the game is shaping up very nicely according to the latest video from Access PlayStation which takes a look around the developer’s office.

The unique platformer will use all of the PS Vita’s control methods to interact with the world. The rear pad can be used to poke your finger out of the ground, blow on the mic to make wind (stop laughing at the back), take pics with the camera and so on. We’re a bit worried that the game will be lost amongst all the big hitters though. It’s already in a niche category thanks to the papercraft-style visuals and its delay from October to late November puts it amongst COD, Battlefield and the next-gen consoles. Perhaps delaying it until early next year would have been better?

Disney Infinity Toy Box Combat Trailer

Only a few weeks to go now before Disney’s tie-in to end all tie-ins arrives. This latest trailer shows off multiple characters’ attack moves and lots of crazy weaponry in Toy Box mode, where players can create or download new levels. Check out my hands-on preview for more details on this section of the game.

Disney Infinity clearly has the likes of Skylanders and Little Big Planet in its sights and with the huge range of Disney and Pixar characters and worlds to choose from, we think this could be something special. We’re expecting Disney to take advantage of their new Star Wars and Marvel licenses with this too, so you’ll finally have an excuse for filling your house with plastic toys again. Check out the trailer after the break. Continue reading Disney Infinity Toy Box Combat Trailer

Creative Assembly’s Aliens Game Not Cancelled

In 2011, Sega and Creative Assembly announced they were working on an Aliens title and bar one blurry monitor screenshot from a team photo at the CA studio, we’ve seen nothing of it since.

However, in an MCV [print edition] interview, Sega’s European boss Jurgen Post said, “Aliens is still one of our pillars. In May 2011 we announced that Creative Assembly is doing something with that brand – we’ve said nothing else so you have to read between the lines there.” Continue reading Creative Assembly’s Aliens Game Not Cancelled
