Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 2 Review

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea Episode 2 Review

Here it is then, the final piece of Irrational and Ken Levine’s adventures with the Bioshock series. With Levine’s decision to close down the studio, the only Bioshock content we’ll be seeing in the future is if 2K decides to put a new team together and go on ahead without the game’s inspirational creative lead. Today though, we’re here to see how Irrational bow out on one of the most respected legacies in gaming.

To fully appreciate everything that Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 2 has to offer, you really need to have completed not only Episode 1 and Infinite, but also the original two Bioshock games. Gameplay innovations are thin on the ground here, but Burial at Sea carries on where it left off by serving as a tribute to the fans and a link between the worlds of Columbia and the underwater city of Rapture.

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1 (Review)

Elizabeth brings us home to Rapture

Bioshock Infinite’s first DLC surprised many of us when Irrational announced it would take place in the original game’s underwater city of Rapture and not in the floating city of Columbia. Surprised? Yes. Disappointed? Not one bit.

With Bioshock Infinite indicating the many possibilities of alternate universes, the concept of taking (a version of) Booker and Elizabeth to one of the most inspired locations in gaming history is one that pulls you in from the start, more so after teasing us with the idea in Infinite.

Sega and Gearbox Respond to Lawsuit

Earlier this week we reported that a class action lawsuit had been filed against Sega and Gearbox software on the grounds of false advertising for Aliens: Colonial Marines. As we all found out on launch day, Sega released a game that bore little resemblance to the one displayed during numerous trade shows like E3. Animations, lighting and scenes were obviously spruced up for a stage demo before being returned to the ugly mess for the actual game committed to disc. Review embargoes also meant there was no time to warn faithful fans who pre-ordered the game.

Well, both Sega and Gearbox have given statement via IGN. Gearbox seem bullish straight out of the blocks, “Attempting to wring a class action lawsuit out of a demonstration is beyond meritless. We continue to support the game, and will defend the rights of entertainers to share their works-in-progress without fear of frivolous litigation.”

While Sega made a similar statement, it was slightly more reserved, “Sega cannot comment on specifics of ongoing litigation, but we are confident that the lawsuit is without merit and we will defend it vigorously.” Continue reading Sega and Gearbox Respond to Lawsuit

Bioshock Infinite’s Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus Part 2 Documentary Warns of the Songbird

Irrational have released another documentary-style video detailing the background information about the floating city of Columbia, the setting of the upcoming Bioshock Infinite. We get an outsider’s perspective on sightings of the Songbird and even a few words on ‘The Lamb of Columbia’, which will surely turn out to be Elizabeth. Part 1 can be seen here, otherwise take a look at the new one after the break. Continue reading Bioshock Infinite’s Columbia: A Modern Day Icarus Part 2 Documentary Warns of the Songbird

New Bioshock: Infinite Trailer from VGAs 2012

As per tradition, the Spike Video Game Awards came and went leaving us with a new collection of world premier trailers. Hopefully we won’t see one for Bioshock: Infinite the same time next year, as we’re pretty hopeful the game will be out by then. Maybe. Fingers crossed.

The latest footage shows Booker DeWitt meeting Elizabeth for the first time and you can see her with longer hair and different clothes than previously, possibly indicating a longer passage of time for the game’s events.

After that, there’s a large amount of gameplay footage of an extensive gunfight with some new enemy types to take on along with an appearance from a Handyman robot. Interestingly, the Handyman can be seen smashing an enemy airship before coming to fight you, which shows off the battle between Columbia’s two factions. It’s a shame that it appears that they both want you dead. Good thing you’re tooled up with tonics (i.e. plasmids) that send swarms of birds at your enemies and Elizabeth is providing backup by bringing you ammo. Apparently, you can use the Skyhook at a messy melee finisher too.

Bioshock Infinite Getting A Board Game

Well, we didn’t see that coming. The tabletop board game, Bioshock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia, will allow players to fight for the city as the Founders or Vox Populi. Irrational Games approached Plaid Hat Games to make the game and the team were “ecstatic” to get to work on it, as they were already big fans of the series.

The recently announced Songbird Edition of the video game features one of the miniatures that can be used in the game. Don’t worry if you don’t want to splash out on that edition of the game too, there are 52 more in the board game’s box along with cards, dice and so on.
