Microsoft’s Xbox One has matched the impressive day one numbers of PS4 consoles sold in the first 24 hours since launch. Both machines sold over 1 million machines on day one. Microsoft are currently celebrating their most successful launch yet as the numbers beat those set by the original Xbox and the Xbox 360.
But should they be really be cracking out the champagne? As it turns out, Sony seems to have the upper hand. Microsoft released their console in 13 different territories including, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, UK, and USA. That covers all the largest gaming markets outside of the Far Eastern ones like Japan and China.
Sony reached one million sales in the same amount of time with just two markets, the US and Canada, indicating that Sony’s day one sales would have smashed the Xbox One’s if they had released the PS4 in the same number of territories.
Obviously, it’s very early in the console wars and the numbers after Christmas will be a clearer indication of which console is winning over gamers. The consensus at the moment seems to be that MS has the stronger launch lineup, but Sony have the long-term appeal nailed down. But then MS have Titanfall on the way. But Sony have the generous PS Plus subscription. This one isn’t going to be over in the first few rounds, that’s for sure.
