Remember Life is Strange? That very promising episodic adventure game? Well, we finally have a release date for Episode 5, the final part in the first season.
The previous episode released at the end of July, and the gaps between episodes continues to grow as the finale won’t be ready until October 20th. That’s an absurd 12 week difference. Dontnod originally intended to release episodes every six weeks, but the second half of it has fallen way behind schedule.
If you’re waiting until the whole season is complete, this won’t matter one bit. For those of us playing episode by episode (oh the joys of reviewing episodic content) it’s meant a drawn-out experience where it’s been really hard to keep track of events without replaying previous episodes or reading through diary logs.
Frankly, it’s about time games like this were completed first and then released on a tighter schedule. Even the original six-week target is too far apart. Capcom nailed it with Resident Evil Revelations 2, whose episodes were only a week apart. It’s a bit concerning that there are so many loose ends to wrap up in the finale. Fingers crossed Dontnod are going to screw us over with a cliffhanger.
When all’s said and done though, we’ve really enjoyed Life is Strange so far. Check out my reviews for Life is Strange Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, and Episode 4 for more details.
