The World of Warcraft community have raised a mightily impressive 2.3 million dollars for the American Red Cross’s relief efforts for the victims of Superstorm Sandy. The storm ravaged America’s West coast late last year, leaving many people homeless, without food and with huge costs to rebuild their homes.
The money was raised by Blizzard donating 100% of the money paid by gamers for the purchase of an in-game pet, a Cinder Kitten, at $10 each. Hats off to Blizzard and the World of Warcraft community for doing some real good to people that really need it.
This isn’t the first time Blizzard and WoW have contributed a lot of money to a relief fund. Back in early 2011, they raised over $1.9 for the Japanese earthquake relief with a similar in-game incentive.
